Travel Attraction: The Red River Delta

Red River Among Most Charming Sites On Earth
The Red River (Song Hong) is located in Northern Vietnam was listed as one of the eighteen most beautiful sites on Earth by Russian magazine Ria Novosti last week, together with American Grand Crayon, Indonesian Komodo national park, and Russian Baikal Lake.

The entire delta region is no more than three metres above sea level, and much of it is one metre or less. The area is subject to frequent flooding: at some places the high-water mark is fourteen metres above the surrounding countryside. Dikes and canals protect the delta from the floodwaters.

A major highway crosses the delta and the coastal strip beyond, an important transportation route linking China and Vietnam.

Historically, the delta has produced a large number of skilled craftspeople. The annual rice-growing cycle featured a period where farmers left the land fallow, thus freeing them to pursue other money-making ventures.

Villages specialized in a wide variety of crafts that ranged from the making of conical “non la” hats to the production of lacquer-ware. The tradition continues to the present day in the form of Vietnam’s famous “craft villages”, mostly clustered in the rural areas surrounding Hanoi and now major tourist attraction.

Today, Red River is not only an important hub of transportation but also a touristic site in Vietnam.

Vietnam Jeep Tours has offered tour 19 Days on Bike from Saigon to Hanoi related to Red River Delta. For more information about tours to Red River Delta, please contact Vietnam Jeep Tours via www.vietnamjeeptours.com or adventure@vietnamjeeptours.com / hotline: +84 909 602 370.

Epic Ma Pi Leng Pass in Ha Giang

Epic Ma Pi Leng Pass in Ha Giang
Ma Pi Leng Pass is located between Meo Vac Commune and Dong Van Plateau, and 15 – kilometre canyon road above the Nho Que River, which weaves its way like a silver ribbon through limestone ravines.

The pass' peak is aptly named Cong Troi (Heaven's Gate), and is the best place for tourists in Vietnam to enjoy a panoramic view of the valley below, particularly on a late afternoon when you can see a beautiful sunset overlooking the river.

Ma Pi Leng is at the height of nearly 2,000m above sea level. The construction of Ma Pi Leng (which takes the form of a crouching horse) began in the 1960’s, and was said to be done almost entirely by the H’mong people.

In the beginning, to accomplish their tasks, construction workers had to carry explosives and move along the sides of the mountain by securing themselves to ropes.

The earliest passes were wide enough only for horses pulling carriages and people to walk through. It wasn’t until much later that the authorities allowed the widening of these passes.

Just a few years ago, the paths at Ma Pi Leng were extremely bumpy and riddled with stones. They were also not wide enough for two cars travelling in opposite directions. Nowhere else in Vietnam is there a place as mighty and wild as Ma Pi Leng.

Looking toward the North and Northeast, thousands of gray, Rocky Mountains form layers along the horizon. Right beside the road are deep valleys, at the bottom of which lies the Nho Que River, where cool water flows peacefully.

On the mountain pass in Meo Vac, trees are scattered; along with stones, which have been lonely through years and centuries.

Mong aborigines are in favour of living in mountain tops, or at least along the sides of the mountains. They absolutely refuse to move to the plain. Neighbours take a half of day to walk from this mountain to other to visit each other.

Ma Pi Leng is not only a beautifully nature landscape but also a historical evidence for memorizing the volunteer youth, if you are excited to travel to Ma Pi Leng Pass please contact Vietnam Jeep Tours via www.vietnamjeeptours.com or adventure@vietnamjeeptours.com / hotline: +84 909 602 370.
