Travel Attraction: The Red River Delta

Red River Among Most Charming Sites On Earth
The Red River (Song Hong) is located in Northern Vietnam was listed as one of the eighteen most beautiful sites on Earth by Russian magazine Ria Novosti last week, together with American Grand Crayon, Indonesian Komodo national park, and Russian Baikal Lake.

The entire delta region is no more than three metres above sea level, and much of it is one metre or less. The area is subject to frequent flooding: at some places the high-water mark is fourteen metres above the surrounding countryside. Dikes and canals protect the delta from the floodwaters.

A major highway crosses the delta and the coastal strip beyond, an important transportation route linking China and Vietnam.

Historically, the delta has produced a large number of skilled craftspeople. The annual rice-growing cycle featured a period where farmers left the land fallow, thus freeing them to pursue other money-making ventures.

Villages specialized in a wide variety of crafts that ranged from the making of conical “non la” hats to the production of lacquer-ware. The tradition continues to the present day in the form of Vietnam’s famous “craft villages”, mostly clustered in the rural areas surrounding Hanoi and now major tourist attraction.

Today, Red River is not only an important hub of transportation but also a touristic site in Vietnam.

Vietnam Jeep Tours has offered tour 19 Days on Bike from Saigon to Hanoi related to Red River Delta. For more information about tours to Red River Delta, please contact Vietnam Jeep Tours via www.vietnamjeeptours.com or adventure@vietnamjeeptours.com / hotline: +84 909 602 370.

Epic Ma Pi Leng Pass in Ha Giang

Epic Ma Pi Leng Pass in Ha Giang
Ma Pi Leng Pass is located between Meo Vac Commune and Dong Van Plateau, and 15 – kilometre canyon road above the Nho Que River, which weaves its way like a silver ribbon through limestone ravines.

The pass' peak is aptly named Cong Troi (Heaven's Gate), and is the best place for tourists in Vietnam to enjoy a panoramic view of the valley below, particularly on a late afternoon when you can see a beautiful sunset overlooking the river.

Ma Pi Leng is at the height of nearly 2,000m above sea level. The construction of Ma Pi Leng (which takes the form of a crouching horse) began in the 1960’s, and was said to be done almost entirely by the H’mong people.

In the beginning, to accomplish their tasks, construction workers had to carry explosives and move along the sides of the mountain by securing themselves to ropes.

The earliest passes were wide enough only for horses pulling carriages and people to walk through. It wasn’t until much later that the authorities allowed the widening of these passes.

Just a few years ago, the paths at Ma Pi Leng were extremely bumpy and riddled with stones. They were also not wide enough for two cars travelling in opposite directions. Nowhere else in Vietnam is there a place as mighty and wild as Ma Pi Leng.

Looking toward the North and Northeast, thousands of gray, Rocky Mountains form layers along the horizon. Right beside the road are deep valleys, at the bottom of which lies the Nho Que River, where cool water flows peacefully.

On the mountain pass in Meo Vac, trees are scattered; along with stones, which have been lonely through years and centuries.

Mong aborigines are in favour of living in mountain tops, or at least along the sides of the mountains. They absolutely refuse to move to the plain. Neighbours take a half of day to walk from this mountain to other to visit each other.

Ma Pi Leng is not only a beautifully nature landscape but also a historical evidence for memorizing the volunteer youth, if you are excited to travel to Ma Pi Leng Pass please contact Vietnam Jeep Tours via www.vietnamjeeptours.com or adventure@vietnamjeeptours.com / hotline: +84 909 602 370.

Travel Destination: Tra Co Beach

Travel Destination Tra Co Beach
Located at Northeastern most point of Vietnam nearly 300 km from Hanoi, Tra Co in Quang Ninh Province is one of the country’s most charming beaches.

Tra Co Beach can be reached by boat from Haiphong or Hong Gai, by minibus from Hong Gai, and by motorcycle from Mong Cai. It is easy to reach Tra Co Beach from Mong Cai because of the road linking the land to the island.

The name “Tra Co” is the combination of two villages – Tra Phuong and Co Trai in Do Son (Hai Phong), where migrants came to settle nearly 600 years ago. Tra Co Island was once 100 metres from the mainland. In 1952 the French built a small rock path connecting the two sides and in 1954 the local authorities upgraded it into a road, which has remained the main link between the island and the mainland ever since.

Tra Co Beach is widely known as the first beach on the country’s map, the longest beach (17km) in the country, and Vietnam's most pristine and romantic beach with its wide stretches of smooth white sand and deep blue sea all the year round.

Tra Co’s beauty is due to many natural features such as Con Mang (Mang Islet), as well as historical and cultural monuments such as the Tra Co Communal House, Linh Khanh and Xuan Lan Pagodas, and Tra Co Catholic Church.

Next to Tra Co Beach is the beautiful Con Mang sand – band, about 5 km from Mong Cai. The sand here is smooth and firm and you can easily ride a motorbike on it without being afraid of sinking or slipping. You can also enjoy the beautiful view at sunrise or sunset.

The Forgotten “A Xoo Tunnel” In Quang Nam Province

The Forgotten “A Xoo Tunnel” In Quang Nam Province
Deep down towards the east of the Truong Son Mountain Range in the central province of Quang Nam lies a forgotten historical tunnel named by the local ethnic people as the A Xoo Tunnel.

Located in A Nong Commune of Tay Giang District this tunnel was built in 1968 – 1970 by soldiers and the K’tu ethnic people as a hiding spot, a place to store food and weapon caches and serve as a temporary hospital during the American war.

This 100 metre long tunnel runs through the mountain and has seven off shoot tunnels. Some sections of the tunnel were damaged during the “carpet bombing” by American troops.

A Lang Dan, chairman of the Tay Giang War Veteran Association, was one of the people who took part in building the tunnel. The Tay Giang authorities rediscovered the historical tunnel and have restored it in many damaged places.

Now, the tunnel has become a historical site for schools in the district who take students there on field trips, in the hope of imparting knowledge of past revolutionary heroes to the younger generation.

Efforts are also being made to advertise the site so that more national and international visitors can view this culturally historical site in future.

Travel Attraction: Lo O Stream In Ninh Thuan Province

Travel Attraction: Lo O Stream In Ninh Thuan Province
Lo O Stream in Ninh Thuan Province was formed from high waterfalls, with giant rocks offering shelter from the immeasurably high forest canopy.

Lo O Stream is a key part of the Nui Chua National Park’s ecosystem where are famous for Vinh Hy Bay, one of the most beautiful bays in Vietnam, where tourists can experience snorkeling, fishing and visiting the coral reef.

To access the stream, tourists have to navigate a pass whose many sections offer beautiful landscapes, with the blue ocean and white sand sloping gently to the sea. Passing a typical suspension bridge built by ethnic minorities in the central region, climbing bumpy rock steps and tourists will arrive in Cau Gay Hamlet, where some 200 Raglai people live in simple houses nestled under the shade of cashew trees and other fruit trees.

Ninh Thuan Province has been dubbed the desert of Vietnam, as it is hidden from the wind that causes precipitation, the land therefore lacks rainfall and is filled with hot sand. However, the province has the driest primeval forest in Vietnam and in Southeast Asia. Once in there, tourists in Ninh Thuan may think they are in Africa, especially when they see the local low thorny plants and trees.

When passing by the forest with bushes, sometimes travellers can see small streams flowing along the sides of the roads. These currents of water pour into small green paddy fields of the Raglay people.

Going deeper into forest, tourists will hear the murmurs of the water. After a while, they will see many tall trees and their ears will be filled with the sounds of water echoing back once they overcome some slippery rocks. Lo O Stream then appears in all its glory.

Lo O Stream was formed from high waterfalls, with giant rocks offering shelter from the immeasurably high forest canopy. This is a place where tourists love to lie down and relax on the granite stone beds. Dipping their legs or body into the stream, the cool water provides its own form of massage therapy.

Joining tours in Vietnam to Lo O Stream, travellers will feel as though they were in a heavenly place when they gather around stone tables to have barbecue seafood that they brought along. If they sleep here for one night on the swinging hammocks by the fire, and listen to the birds singing, they will surely forget their busy life.

The whole village is often obscured by clouds, though shafts of sunlight pierce through, leaving bright spots on the overcast landscape. Below, the waters of Nam Ron River are barely visible as they snake their way through the mountains.

Five Really Simple Travel Time Savers

5 Really Simple Travel Time Savers
What with organising flights, hotels, cars, airport parking, baggage, child – minders, pet – minders (the list goes on…) it’s no wonder so many travellers are frazzled! Slow down for a moment, chill out and follow these tips to save time and hassle on your travels.

Pack Smart – This goes for your main luggage and carry-on baggage. Bear in mind the security restrictions, i.e. no nail scissors or tweezers in your hand luggage and the restrictions on liquids. If you can travel without checking in a suitcase then do so as this speed thing up no end. And if you do need that suitcase make sure it’s under the weight required for all of your flights.

Frequent Travellers – If you travel frequently store all your travel essentials in a box, i.e. passport, driving licence, documents etc so everything is in one place for a quick getaway! Put together a capsule wardrobe as well so you have several guaranteed outfits.

Dress Smart – Not literally, but make sure you have slip-on shoes, no metal on your belt or others accessories and remove any piercings etc that you know set off the detectors. Do all you can to pass through the security checks as speedily as possible?

Be Prepared For Delays – Fact of life; delays happen! Equip yourself with a book, magazine, mp3 player, mobile phone and notepad or laptop. That way you can fill your time with some useful activities, and make sure you have all your travel related phone numbers programmed into your phone so you can call ahead and make sure your plans still run smoothly.

Use Your Local Tour Operator – If you’ve booked a tour package with a local tour operator then ask them to book you local restaurants and scout out any local services you might need, i.e. pharmacy, clothing, gifts etc. They are best placed to know all the local haunts and you’ll benefit from their local knowledge!
